2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Lilac Breasted Roller, Okavango Delta, Botswana
Beautiful African Bird

Species: Lilac Breasted Roller | Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana

We did not expect to see as many birds as we did or to be so impressed by the varieties. This bird had to be the most colorful. We saw several and they were such a photo op! Their faces looked like they were a little aloof and knew their beauty! The environment was so thorny yet he was perfectly perched in his tree of thorns. This was by far our favorite bird.

About The Photographer

On our recent trip to Botswana in December of 2015 I had a chance to take many pictures during our 2 week stay on safari. It was an amazing trip and since I am an amateur photographer I hoped to get just a few really good shots. The animals were stunning and my pictures turned out so much better then I could have hoped for. With the help of my daughter I took these pictures and created a photo book to show the journey of the trip and have received many positive comments and questions about the animals and how real they look. I truly am an amateur but learned that capturing pictures at just the right moment is a joy and and a challenge which I plan to continue.
