Species: Grizzle Bear | Location: Katmai National Park, United States
We had waiting, sometimes for hours, for bears to arrive at the river. We knew we were early in the season and salmon might not run while we were there. After dinner on our second night, we went back out to Brooks Falls. Shortly after arriving, a small school of salmon made its way upstream. As such, several bears came out of the woods to go fishing. It was fun to watch the salmon jump the falls and the bears trying to catch them. Sometimes the salmon would make it and continue their journey. Sometimes the bear would catch and eat one. In this image, a salmon came straight at the bear's nose and the bear froze for a moment. This is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.
