Species: Brown Bear | Location: Alaska, McNeil River State Game Sanctuary, United States
This is a bear who is nicknamed "Ears" by the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary staff. It is easy to see that he got this nickname from his unusually golden-colored ears. We were sitting in the creek bed while the tide was out one day during my visit to McNeil River in Alaska. We became the center of what the guides of the Sanctuary call a "bear vortex". We had several bears walk within 20 feet of our group and pass us by. This bear, Ears, was one that walked very close to our group. I snapped this as he passed us by, ignoring us except to turn his nose towards us and catch our scent.
About The Photographer
Krissy is an Outdoor Recreation student at Southern Wesleyan University. Her interest in photography was sparked by her father's hobby in wildlife photography. Her favorite subject to photograph is wildlife as well. In the summer of 2015, Krissy traveled to McNeil River State Game Sanctuary in Alaska. This proved to be an incredible opportunity to photograph brown bears, foxes, and other wildlife native to the area. She hopes that her career in outdoor recreation will provide many more opportunities to photograph different wildlife all over the country.
