Impala Golden Jackal, Maisa Mara, Africa
Life and Death on the Masai Mara

Species: Impala Golden Jackal | Location: Maisa Mara, Africa

While in Kenya, I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. A jackal was chasing an impala fawn when its mother attempted to stop the predator. All three ran directly at me when the photo was taken. Twice the jackal knocked the fawn down but the doe drove its hooves into the jackal. The pursuit lasted @two minutes and ended when the panting jackal gave up the chase and the doe stood over her fawn as it rested. How fortunate to witness one of the many life and death dramas that take place on the savanna.
