Species: Gray Wolf | Location: Katmai National Park, United States
We were walking along a creek back to camp after a day of bear viewing in Katmai National Park when a wolf appeared on the opposite shore. She seemed to take an interest in us and started trotting along in the same direction we were heading. Our guide suggested that if we stopped and squatted down, she might come closer. Sure enough, she crossed the creek and, dripping wet, came right up to us. She lingered for a minute or two before disappearing into the brush. It was another intimate, peaceful, safe wildlife encounter.
