Species: Lions | Location: Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
We arrived at the base of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania at 6:30 am to find that a pride of lions were just finishing off a cape buffalo that they had taken down overnight. They were, of course, thirsty after their night's hard work and headed for the nearest water hole. We watched five lionesses come to the water hole before they gave way to the approaching male. This photo is of the first three lionesses to arrive at the water hole - after which it got a little crowded.
