2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

North American Red Fox, San Juan Island, United States of America
The Salty Red Fox

Species: North American Red Fox | Location: San Juan Island, United States of America

A quiet moment alone with Salty (a nickname I've assigned him, he's like that of a salty dog) while I spent this spring observing the North American Red Fox down in Washington State on San Juan Island. It was a blustery day, so he got a bit of a wind blown look. He has been busy hunting for prey and for hand-outs as he and his mate have seven small kits to feed, whom are about 4 weeks old when this photo was taken.

Salty has unfortunately been hand fed by humans illegally and thus seem to be less shy of humans, so much so that he will come up to slow driving vehicles to seek hand outs. Please follow #leavenotrace folks, lets keep these beautiful creatives well and safe.

Observing wildlife and documenting them by photography is a huge passion of mine, to see and understand how they live, to experience their characters, brings about humility and further respect for our co-habitants on this earth. I use photography as a medium to reach out and share the beauty of nature; visual stories help to engage viewers to relate to nature and it's creatures, with thoughts on sustainable co-habitation (#leavenotrace) and conservation of our environments we choose to interact in. Currently I have focused in on wildlife in the Pacific NorthWest as I'm only one to a few hours drive away from all that the PNW has to offer. I'd love to be able to expand further and widen my scope of animal studies as a hobby naturalist.
