How to Photograph Bears in Lake Clark National Park

It’s the beginning of summer, which for me means that Alaska is calling. Recently, I’ve been spending my summers in Lake Clark National Park at Nat Hab’s Alaska Bear Camp. From a photographers perspective, there is something special about living amongst bears and going out every chance you get to photograph them. While you can have them right out your front door, it helps to understand how to best make use of this special opportunity. So, Nat Hab’s video team has published a video on my approach to bear photography.

In the video I go through:

  • Checking the scene
  • Making your zoom work
  • Bear Compositions
    • In Landscape
    • Wrestling
    • In the Grass
    • Vertical Orientations

So, come along with me as I photograph brown bears one evening at camp! (Bonus photos from that night are in the slide gallery below)
