Behind the Scenes in Greenland
Stepping off the plane and onto Greenland soil (well, mostly just rock and tundra!) was a visceral experience. In the first millisecond, I felt somewhere markedly newer than most places I’ve been. That feeling would be reinforced over the next week as I explored the region, camped at Nat Hab’s Base Camp Greenland, and photographed the heck out of this surreal landscape.
This trip had multiple goals. First and foremost, I was to join a videographer from Natural Habitat Adventures’ film team in creating a new, visionary short film on the effects of climate change in the high Arctic. Greenland was the perfect place to do this, as it’s been exhibiting pronounced effects of climate change for the last couple of decades.
Plus, it’s incredibly beautiful—that’s always a plus!
However, as a secondary goal, I was to snap, snap, snap away with my own camera and try to capture all the facets of this glorious trip and extraordinary place.
The thing that surprised me most about this photo expedition in Greenland was just how many photos I took over the course of 10 days. I went into the trip expecting to take fewer photos than usual, especially compared to trips I’d been on with a heavy wildlife emphasis.
However, it was entirely the opposite—every second teemed with allure, and no two scenes were the same. Whether it was the light, mood, angle or ephemeral passing iceberg, the scenes before me constantly evolved and changed in the most dynamic ways.

I’m happy to say that the entire expedition was a grand success, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it. Our video work was beyond thrilling, and the complementary photos I was able to snap will no doubt help us spread the word about just how incredible Greenland is as a country, as a culture and as a photo destination.
I can’t recommend this trip highly enough. I hope that you have a chance to see Greenland—specifically remote and rugged East Greenland—in a way that really gets you out there, like this very special Base Camp Greenland photo adventure.
Best,
