Ladies in Waiting

Species: Jaguar | Location: The Pantanal , Brazil

On a recent trip to the Pantanal, my friend and I spent almost nine hours a day in a small boat traversing several rivers. The greatest reward was to view beautiful jaguars, such as this pair of females, resting but watchful among the trees. We were in bright sun in the middle of the river, looking into the deep shade of the trees on the river banks, so finding the animals and taking their picture was a real challenge. Sometimes we would spot just a tail or a nose and then would wait for an hour or two to see if the jaguar would come into full view. This pair was certainly worth waiting for!
