Ruby Jewel of the Serengeti

Species: Scarlet-Chested Sunbird | Location: Serengeti, Tanzania

This image is of a scarlet-chested sunbird taken at the Ndutu Safari Lodge in the southeastern part of the Serengeti ecosystem. Because of the variety of indigenous trees, shrubs, and flowering plants on the property, bird life abounds. I took this photo just outside of the dining hall. The abundant scarlet-chested sunbird thrives in mostly dry savannas and scrublands.
