Marching in Dew

Species: greater prairie chicken | Location: Nebraska Sandhills. Loup County. Switzer Ranch., USA

After watching greater prairie chickens do their spring mating dance on Switzer Ranch in Nebraska for several days, I covered up with burlap before daybreak and waited for the birds to show up. In the wetness of a dew-soaked morning, the birds marched by me, obviously knowing that I was there, but compelled by the urge to mate to return to their ancestral booming grounds.
