Taking a Shower

Species: Hoffmann's Two-Toed Sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni) | Location: La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica

What do you do when you move too slowly to get out of the downpour? Enjoy it! This Hoffmann's two-toed sloth was hanging out in the trees above the river that cuts through La Selva Biological Station. After letting the rain run though the algae-infused hair on his head for several minutes, he tucked his head between his legs and slept for several hours. I was glad I was able to snap this shot before he tucked himself in, as the rest of my pictures looked like a headless ball of fur hanging from the trees.

I am a graduate student studying evolutionary biology, specifically in regards to reptiles and amphibians. Although I am pursuing a career in science, my true passion is exploring and documenting the vast diversity of animals in nature. The majority of my free time is spent traveling, taking photographs, and trying to keep my ever-growing vertebrate life-list up to date.
