Where the Buffalo Roam

Species: American Bison | Location: Wyoming, United States of America

We drove into one of the few state parks where there are managed wild buffalo herds, not knowing whether we'd see any since they have over a thousand acres to roam. We had just changed direction when I saw a small herd grazing along the road about a half a mile away, so we slowed the van while I (as quietly as possible) slid the van door open. As I photographed, I was almost shaking. I'd dreamt for years of taking photos of wildlife such as this in their natural habitat. This was not only unexpected, but a dream come true for me.

About The Photographer

Cropped laura2

I've always been captivated by wildlife and all of nature, it's as much a part of me as breathing. When digital cameras were introduced, I bought a small Nikon that easily fit in my purse so it was easy to bring along when I took pictures.

In early 2012 when my son gave me a much more comprehensive point and shoot with a wide range of settings and options. That is when I began my in-depth photography education because I took my camera with me everywhere I went. I was so excited I could hardly wait to get outside and start taking pictures. I had no real style or knowledge of nature photography, but I had tons of enthusiasm.

Six years later, I've gotten a much better camera and a better understanding of what a good photo looks like. More than just photo expeditions, my outings are now focused on all of nature and wildlife conservation, the importance of protecting it, of reestablishing species that are becoming endangered and preserving our planet through my photography and conservation measures.

I maintain a leave no trace practice, I strive to leave no evidence of my visit as well as minimize my impact on the wildlife I'm photographing, by keeping a respectful distance and being mindful that I'm a guest in their home.

Magical Elements Photography was developed to instill the importance of living mindfully and in awareness of the protection and continuation of wildlife and our ecosystem. I live in Flagstaff, Arizona.

My equipment is a Nikon D3400 with a AF-P Nikkor 18-55 mm1/3.5.6 G VR Lens. I also carry a telephoto/macro lens and a wide angle lens with me
